COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC, in partnership with the Kitsilano Community Centre Association, has created a new office to assist the Greek community of the province in family and community development.

The Community Development Project office is based at the Kitsilano Community Centre. The office services are available in both Greek or English to all persons of Hellenic heritage who may require them.

The need for such services has been perceived for some time and the Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC took the initiative to address it. The project was finally made possible thanks to a $20,000 BC Government Grant to the Kitsilano Community Centre Association approved by the Ministry Responsible for Multiculturalism & Immigration.

This pilot project will have an initial run of six months, from August 16, 1996 to February 15, 1997. Government funding, community needs AND community support will determine its continuation. The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC invites the Greek community at large to participate and fully support this project.

Services Available

This office is open to assist the Greek community at large with referrals to available services, providing information, as well as basic counselling and support on a number of matters such as:

Family Conflict

• Family violence including spousal and child abuse.
• Child rearing and disciplining.
• Issues surrounding intergenerational conflict between parents and Canadian-born children.

Housing and Accommodation

• BC Social Housing.
• Landlord / Tenancy Issues.

Legal Aid

Women’s Equality and Progression

Translation of Documents

Assistance with Government and Non-Government Forms and Applications

Services for Senior Citizens

Days & Hours of Operation

Drop-in hours are available for all to attend. Clients will be served on a "first come-first serve" basis.

There is NO CHARGE for any of the services provided by the Community Development Project of the Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC.
