ORGANIZATIONThe Hellenic Canadian Congress of British Columbia is the grouping (federation) of 21 Greek organizations in the province. A 32-member Provincial Council is responsible for its administration. This Council is elected every two years by the delegates sent at a General Meeting by the member-organizations. At the Provincial Council all member-organizations are equally represented by appointing one person each, allowing the voice of all member-organizations, large or small, to be heard. The remaining ten seats are filled by elections allowing the larger organizations to have a voice more representative of their total membership. We can loosely compare this system with the “simple proportional” known to have been in use in Greece at various stages in the last 50 years. The Provincial Council must, according to its By-laws, maintain four Standing Committees and as many sub-committees or Special Committees as it deems necessary to carry out its mandate as it is spelled out in its Constitution. The Chair and Co-chair of any Committee or sub-committee, must be a Councillor. However, and with the approval of the Provincial Council, there are no restrictions as to whom participates in any Committee or sub-committee. Finally, the Hellenic Canadian Congress of British Columbia is organically attached to the (National) Hellenic Canadian Congress, the Confederation of the Greek organizations in Canada.
